Minnick. or Mimwem of Clara, County Offaly

We recently discovered the possibility that our ancestors changed their name from Mimwem to Minnick upon arrival in the US during the mid 1800s. We know that Robert Francis and Syra Cavannaugh Minnick/Mimwem came from Clara in County Offaly, but we have not been able to verify the name change or find relatives further back in the family tree. If you have any information about this we would greatly appreciate it as my mother and I will shortly be making our first trip to Ireland in a few weeks. Thanks and good luck in your own searches!
