I am a retired political and current affairs writer and I was so proud of my countrymen and women when Ireland rejected that treaty. : It is fatally flawed and would eventually lead to us being obliged to do or condone things that would diminish us as a nation. : I hope and pray we are not going to be bullied, cajoled, bribed or otherwise into reviving it. : Irish men and women suffered and died for centuries so that we could have the freedom and right to decide our course. : We have to defend that right or dishonour all those who fought and died to give it to us. : Padda Spaans
