Although I was born just outside Sligo, back in 1945, after just three years, my family moved to England. The family farm is still functioning there, with my Aunt Mary living on it. In 1957 we emigrated to Canada. I was lucky enough to revist Ireland in 1964, while a member of the Canadian Navy, We were based out of Londonderry, Northern Ireland for three weeks. Those were great times. The Orangeman Parade was held the day after we docked, and we all had the day off. I met a great many friendly folks there, even if I did keep on mentioning the fact that I was born in Sligo. I can still remember "Ginty's Pub" and the fun had there. I was able to get across the border just one time, but had a blast at a local dance hall.
I have never been back since, so this newsletter does keep on trying to convince me to go back again. (It would almost be for the first time)
I do keep on saying that "next year" will be the one. So again, maybe in 2010 I shall make the trip Across the Sea to Ireland.
